      Hello Church Tools team,

We are a sizeable church with many different bands, building many different schedules at the same time. The problem we have is that Church Tools wants you to designate an original Key for a song, and it then pulls that key into every schedule where it's used.

This becomes a problem if the song is used more than once on different schedules. Someone wants "No Longer Slaves" in E, while another schedule wants it in D, for example.

A temporary workout around is to not designate the original key of the song, and instead add the key via a Note. The problems are:

      • (1) when you click "Send" to email your team a bullet list of songs, it does not communicate the note and therefore does not communicate the Key which is vital for a quick read and overview

      • (2) if a song does accidentally have an original key designated, both it and the note are displayed, communicating two keys which is confusing

      • (3) the Note appears very light and is on a different line underneath the Song name and other info.

A desired solution is to designate the key of the song every time it is used. If the Key displayed in a Rota was a simple selectable drop-down list of the 12 keys, you could designate within each Rota the keys for the songs for that event. It would also be good if it were Bold and right next to the song title 😉

Thanks for taking the time to read all this, much love!

        Hi,
we handle different keys of a song as different arrangements (Titled "E", "D", ...) and it works fine.
It doesnt flood the arrangements - because we don't need more than 2-3 different keys for one song.
And since you can't always "auto transpose" everything(*), you can sort the sheets in different keys correctly.

So i don't want to HAVE to choose a specific key every time. 😉

(*) CT only supports automatic songselect download for chordsheets - not really notes; also we have our own sheets (mostly self written but also copies of song books) as pdfs.

Yes, that would be my answer too, except ... CT doesn't print the arrangement or display it in the app, unfortunately! I think that is a major lacuna.

There already is a feature request for this:

            Right.
But it "chooses" the right arrangement automatically when you press in the song (either via the plan or the song list).
So confusion only occurs when you want to communicate with "non-CT-people". 😉

@thommyb isn't the original problem for multiple keys already solved, since the information (like key, bpm etc.) of the chosen arrangement is indeed being displayed in the app's agenda for each song?

@Tobias-Lachmann For the most part, I would say: yes.
